Experts from around the world have been invited to address the two day event, from a range of academic and professional institutions. Our forum speakers are at the forefront of their fields, including renowned authors, physicists, legal experts, political scientists, sociologists and economists. The potential use of nuclear weapons concerns everyone, and the forum will elaborate the possible impacts of nuclear use as well as ways and means to eliminate the nuclear weapons threat forever.

The UN Nuclear Ban Treaty was uniquely impacted by civil society, who pushed for some of the treaty's most groundbreaking articles on victim assistance, gender, and environmental remediation. This forum will provide analysis and insights on these unique features, as well as the ways they are situated more broadly in the current geopolitical context, providing an opportunity for both experienced disarmament campaigners as well as those concerned about the issue for the first time to learn, connect and engage in efforts to bring about a nuclear weapons free world.

You may arrive at the forum venue 90 minutes prior to the start of your time slot, but you may not visit with law schools until your assigned entry time begins. An educational workshop will be available one hour prior to each entry start time. Your opportunity to visit with law schools will conclude at the end of your time slot.

In order to comply with state and local guidelines, vaccination requirements for the remaining 2021-22 LSAC Law School Forums vary by city. More information for each in-person forum is available below.

To keep everyone as safe as possible, we are implementing an important precaution that is consistent with current San Francisco County requirements for indoor events: All in-person forum participants will be required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. A negative COVID test is not sufficient to enter the event.

Everyone attending an in-person forum must wear, for the entirety of their time inside the venue, a face mask that covers the nose and mouth. Although we will have disposable masks on site, we encourage attendees to be prepared.

The foundation is funded by its 1,000 member companies, typically global enterprises with more than five billion dollars in turnover (varying by industry and region). These enterprises rank among the top companies within their industry and/or country and play a leading role in shaping the future of their industry and/or region. Membership is stratified by the level of engagement with forum activities, with the level of membership fees increasing as participation in meetings, projects, and initiatives rises.[51] In 2011, an annual membership cost $52,000 for an individual member, $263,000 for "Industry Partner" and $527,000 for "Strategic Partner". An admission fee costs $19,000 per person.[52] In 2014, WEF raised annual fees by 20 percent, bringing the cost for "Strategic Partner" from CHF 500,000 ($523,000) to CHF 600,000 ($628,000).[53]

Next to individual participants, the World Economic Forum maintains a dense network of corporate partners that can apply for different partnership ranks within the forum.[70] For 2019, Bloomberg has identified a total of 436 listed corporates that participated in the Annual Meeting while measuring a stock underperformance by the Davos participants of around -10% versus the S&P 500 during the same year. Drivers are among others an overrepresentation of financial companies and an underrepresentation of fast-growing health care and information technology businesses at the conference.[71] The Economist had found similar results in an earlier study, showing an underperformance of Davos participants against both the MSCI World Index and the S&P 500 between 2009 and 2014.[69]

In 2020, the forum published a report named: "Nature Risk Rising". In this report the forum estimated that approximately half of the global GDP is dependent highly or moderately on nature and 1 dollar spent on nature restoration yields 9 dollars in profit.[85][86]

In April 2020, the forum published an article that postulates that the COVID-19 pandemic is linked to the destruction of nature. The number of emerging diseases is rising and this rise is linked to deforestation and species loss. In the article, there are multiple examples of the degradation of ecological systems caused by humans. It is also says that half of the global GDP is moderately or largely dependent on nature. The article concludes that the recovery from the pandemic should be linked to nature recovery.[85]

The forum proposed a plan for a green recovery. The plan includes advancing circular economy. Among the mentioned methods, there is green building, sustainable transport, organic farming, urban open space, renewable energy and electric vehicles.[112]

According to forum founder Schwab, the intention of the project is to reconsider the meaning of capitalism and capital. While not abandoning capitalism, he proposes to change and possibly move on from some aspects of it, including neoliberalism and free-market fundamentalism. The role of corporations, taxation and more should be reconsidered. International cooperation and trade should be defended and the Fourth Industrial Revolution also.[129][130]

Since the annual meeting in January 2003 in Davos, an Open Forum Davos,[189] which was co-organized by the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches, is held concurrently with the Davos forum, opening up the debate about globalization to the general public. The Open Forum has been held in the local high school every year, featuring top politicians and business leaders. It is open to all members of the public free of charge.[190][191]

As stipulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the HLPF has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs at the global level, working coherently with the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and other relevant organs and forums.

The HLPF also undertakes annual thematic reviews of the SDGs including cross-cutting issues. As decided in General Assembly resolution 75/290 B, for the remainder of the current cycle of the high-level political forum, the themes shall be:

For the remainder of the current cycle of the high-level political forum convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, the sets of Sustainable Development Goals to be reviewed in-depth shall be:

On the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the General Assembly decided in 2016 in its resolution 70/299 to review progress in implementing resolution 70/299 and resolution 67/290 on the format and organizational aspects of the HLPF at its 74th session. The review was to benefit from lessons learned in the first four-year cycle of the forum, including the SDG Summit in September 2019, as well as from other processes under the GA and ECOSOC related to the follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The General Assembly then adopted, in August 2020, resolution 74/298 on the review of the implementation of General Assembly resolution 67/290 on the high-level political forum on sustainable development, resolution 70/299 on the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the global level and resolution 72/305 on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council. Due to the limits to the negotiation process resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The resolution deferred much of the review of ECOSOC and HLPF to the following session of the General Assembly. 041b061a72
